Introduction

Hole in the Boat is an improvisational comedy duo. They present a full-length show consisting of scenes, games and songs, all improvised on stage. Everything is fully based on suggestions from the audience. Every show is unique, unpredictable and always versatile, hilarious, and musical.

Biography

Gerry van der Laan

Gerry van der Laan started in comedy as one half of the successful Improv duo ‘House of Mangoes’. He worked with ‘Blind Date’ for a run of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. After working as a reporter for Dutch radio station 3FM and following improv workshops in Chicago, he joined improv group ‘Improphecy&lrquo; which is where he met Martijn: Hole in the Boat was born.

Martijn Proemstra

Martijn Proemstra was a member of Improv group ‘Improphecy’ for three years. While performing on a weekly basis, he developed his explosive style of improv. To perfect his skills, he took improv classes in Chicago at the infamous Annoyance Theatre. Occasionally, he can be spotted on Dutch music channel TMF.

Event hosting:

Your event might be in need of an experienced host who will welcome your audience, introduce guests and speakers, and perhaps engage in some audience participation. We can provide you with a host who can ad-lib, lead a discussion, and entertain an (international) audience. Or double the excitement: it is all of the above with two hosts. Particularly when you are looking for a more humorous presentation of your event, duo hosting can be very helpful.

Comedy Café

Every Sunday night at 9pm, Amsterdam’s Comedy Café is the host of the ‘Hole in the Boat‘ Improv night. It is, in fact, the only improv night at the Comedy Café. Presented by Hole in the Boat, and sometimes joined by guest performers, it is the best way to end your weekend!
